The automotive industry worldwide continues to undergo the greatest transformation in its history. New expectations for tomorrow's mobility and vehicle propulsion systems, the digitalization of production and products, and overarching tech trends around topics such as big data, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity are causing serious changes. The topics that most concern OEMs will continue to be electromobility (CO² reduction), autonomous driving and connectivity, in our opinion.

The interior of the vehicle is becoming increasingly important. The demand for over-the-air-updates and embedded applications will increase enormously. People want to be able to access their apps easily and quickly and download new applications without having to wait for the next update from the manufacturer or possibly the next vehicle model. They want to be able to use the same applications they have on their smartphone, for example access to libraries in Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music or to access their Social Media accounts.

In terms of autonomous driving, we believe the demand for displays for all vehicle occupants will increase – electronic content will be shifted.
People will use the vehicle to enjoy entertainment, play games, watch movies with family and friends via streaming, use the vehicle as a mobile office, make video calls, communicate with their community on social media. People will have more time for social and entertainment activities in the car. It is very likely that the vehicle interior will be used in a completely different way.

The challenge for OEMs and suppliers is to enable access to rich media content into the vehicle in a user-friendly and secure way, and to achieve flawless image reproduction via displays and excellent sound quality. The demands for an excellent sound system will increase and hence the desire for new technologies, such as sound zones and immersive audio.
Audio and Acoustics will be a key feature in the car.


Personalization of content will certainly play a major role in this context as end users have different requirements. Younger people tend to request more digital features than older people; end users want to "take" their apps/profile with them when changing the vehicle. Those OEMs that seamless integrate new technologies into the vehicle and offer user-friendly operating concepts will be among the winners.

In addition to the development of new technologies and ways to integrate rich content into the vehicle, we believe that greater digitalization of product and manufacturing development is the key to success.
Advanced simulations as a building block of a completely virtual development process will become even more important in the future.
